To avoid sticky hair with your natural shampoo, here are some simple things you can do :

  • First of all, your sticky hair can be due to a saturation of products. To remedy this, make a clarifying shampoo. This removes the layers of products that accumulate on your hair. You can buy it or make it at home thanks to baking soda.
  • The appearance of sticky hair after a natural shampoo can come from a bad rinse. Organic shampoo being a very concentrated product, it must be rinsed more intensely than liquid shampoos. To do this, massage and gently rub your scalp while rinsing yourself. This gesture makes it possible to remove the surplus of shampoo which remains attached to the scalp and which is responsible for this sticky and sticky effect.

  • apply a small amount of organic shampoo is enough to wash your hair well and to facilitate rinsing of the product. If you use too much shampoo, you risk causing a buildup of product that will be difficult to rinse and which will be responsible for your sticky hair after organic shampoo.
  • To eliminate the appearance of sticky hair with your natural shampoo, do just one application of your shampoo, not 2 or 3 in a row. Contrary to what you might think, a single shampoo is enough to wash well. By putting the product back on cleansed hair, you risk simply weighing it down and creating an occlusive layer that will be responsible for sticky hair after your natural shampoo.
  • If your sticky hair is behind the back of your neck, tilt your head forward when rinsing. Indeed, being a less accessible part at the time of rinsing, a mass of product is likely to agglutinate on this part of your skull.
  • Finish rinsing your hair with a vinegar mixture. Mix 1L of water with 1 teaspoon of white vinegar or cider. This mixture will eliminate everything that can potentially get stuck on your hair: product residue, limescale, toxins etc. and which can cause the appearance of sticky hair after organic shampoo.

Indeed, natural shampoos have different formulations which correspond to the types of hair (oily, dry, colored, thick, fine hair, etc.). Each shampoo will be formulated to meet a specific need and therefore it will have very distinct properties. • Use natural conditioners like vegetal oils to Ayurvedic powders at least 30 minutes before shampooing. Note that some oils weigh down and grease the hair, while others on the contrary regulate sebum. Plus, oils and powders don't weigh your hair down. That is to say that contains too much natural oils or vegetable butters. These components are thick and difficult to rinse. They can have an occlusive effect on your hair and leave your hair sticky after organic shampoo.

Indeed, most shampoos use sulphates which are very irritating and which can cause a reaction of the scalp which will overgrease. The names of these sulfates are Sodium Lauryl Sulfate (SLS), Sodium Laureth Sulfate (SLS) and Ammonium Lauryl Sulfate (ALS).
  • Prefer the use of mild surfactant which irritate the scalp very little: Sodium Coco Sulfate, Sodium Lauryl Sulfoacetate, Disodium Laureth Sulfosuccinate, or Disodium Cocoamphodiacetate.
  • to extremely gentle washing bases. Sodium Cocoyl Isethioniate, Coco Glucoside, Decyl Glucoside, Disodium Cocoyl Glutamate, Lauryl Glucoside, Sodium Cocoamphoacetate or Sodium lauroyl methyl isethionate.

Some organic shampoos use ingredients that are controversial, such as cocamidopropyl betaine. To be sure of choose a good organic shampoo, we recommend the application INCIbeauty ou Yuka. These applications analyze the composition of cosmetics. They alert you to dangerous and unwanted ingredients; or on the contrary those which are healthy for the body and the hair.

Thank you for this article !!
I have noticed that my hair is sticky and stays oily when I do an oil bath before. Organic shampoos have a hard time removing the excess and the lengths remain greasy. My hair is extra fine and rather oily.

      Hello Camille,
This is because fine hair is the most likely to have tacky hair (I was also). To avoid this with your hair type, you must at all costs avoid all heavy and too rich products, that is to say nourishing ingredients such as oils or butters. You can do an oil bath before shampooing but putting a very small amount and only on the ends. And indeed, organic shampoos have much less aggressive surfactants: they strip less and suddenly have more difficulty removing viscous materials such as oils. In this case, if you want to stay organic, I advise you to take a shampoo for oily hair, often a little more concentrated in surfactant.
Be careful, however, that it is real organic, healthy and well formulated (I recommend the INCI Beauty app to be sure).
Do not hesitate to tell me if you have come to the end of your problem! 🙂
