How to make a homemade liquid shampoo?

how to make liquid shampoo

A liquid shampoo is a washing base and additions of active ingredients that take care of the hair. The important thing when making your homemade liquid shampoo is to follow a certain procedure, being careful:

  • the essential ingredients to use to make a good shampoo
  • the ingredients to put according to your hair type to take care of it
  • and the dosages of each ingredient to have a good consistency

The basic principles for making liquid shampoo

To make liquid shampoo, some ingredients are essential. They will help to get a good consistency of your shampoo, while washing and taking care of your hair. You will therefore need to find in your homemade liquid shampoo:

  • A washing base or otherwise called a surfactant. The washing base is essential. It helps wash your hair and it also acts as an emulsifier. It will therefore allow a homogeneous mixture between all the ingredients of the recipe. There are several types, but among the most common you will find: the consistent washing base, the neutral washing base, the foaming washing base, Marseille soap, and Castile soap. Choose the one that suits you according to the texture of the shampoo you want. The main thing is to select a natural one and to respect the dosages indicated on the products.
  • An aqueous phase. Sterilized water and / or a hydrosol will make it possible to obtain the creamy and liquid texture of the shampoo. They also help to soften the shampoo and prevent it from being too concentrated. The advantage of hydrosol is that it has properties depending on its origin. Each hydrosol will therefore have virtues for a specific type of hair.
  • A fatty substance. The fatty substances in liquid shampoos are vegetable oils. They each have specific virtues that give hair many benefits. Therefore, depending on your type of hair, the choice of vegetable oil used will differ.
  • A natural preservative. Who says liquid shampoo, says aqueous phase and therefore risk of bacterial proliferation. Therefore, to avoid this, you will need to add a natural preservative for the aqueous phases to your preparation. One of the best preservatives you can find is isocide, since it is even compatible with the organic mention and it does not present any contraindication. Grapefruit seed extract is also an excellent preservative of the aqueous phases.
  • Complementary ingredients to take care of the hair: essential oils, powders, phytokeratin, provitamin B5, cetiol, rice protein etc. These ingredients are adapted to your hair type. Check them out below.
